Meetings
The Board meets weekly on Tuesdays at 9 am, except on the third Tuesday, when the Board meets at 7 p.m. Meetings are held in Board Chambers, in the basement Board Chambers, 1010 10th Street, Modesto

Districts
The Board's website includes a map of the five districts.Duties: Legislative duties center on setting policy, adopting annual budgets and holding public hearings. Administrative functions include the final responsibilities for effective management of the County government.

Responsible for annually assessing all taxable property in Stanislaus County, except for state-assessed property. Duties include discovering all assessable property, listing all taxable property, valuing the property and enrolling it on local assessment rolls.

Known as the watchdog of government, the Civil Grand Jury investigates complaints from citizens, civic groups, government employees and others about the operations of county and city governments and the conduct of their officers and employees.

Criminal Grand Jury
A Criminal Grand Jury is used by the prosecution as an alternative to a preliminary hearing.

Collects property taxes on the County's 125,000 properties. Works with the auditor controller and assessor.

Collections
Collects on money due the County, whether from overdue library books or hospital bills. The office handles about 2,000 bills a month.

Licenses
Issues business licenses and licenses for dance halls, gun dealers and peddler permits.
